Pre-requirement for going to japan?

Question:

i am 17 years old student at Sandiego, california. I am just wondering what I must do for being able to go to japan this december. I have a U.S citizenship.
do i have to get like VISA from japan embassy? and do i have to be 18 in order to make a reservation for the flight? and what airline should i choose for the flight to japan from San Diego, CA?

Answer:

You have to have parental consent to get a passport. A minor can't leave the country without written parental consent and having an adult meet you when you arrive.
An American can stay up to 90 days as a visitor without a visa. But when you arrive they will ask you the purpose of your visit, where you'll be staying, and how long. They will also take your photo and fingerprints. If you refuse anything, you will be denied entry..
