What are Japanese apartments called?

Question:


Yes, please tell me what they are called, unless they're just called apartments. But I know that some Japanese hotels are called Ryokans. So I was just making sure because I'm working on a project, and it has Japanese apartments and hotels and what not and I want to make this as nice as possible. And if you have any good websites or anything like that I can learn from, I would really appreciate it. Thank you! ^_^

Regular Japanese apartments ARE called "apaato" アパート(same word, different pronunciation)

There are different types of them though, newer and bigger buildings (mansions) are also called "manshon" マンション http://www.homealive.net/area/aichi/nago…
The private houses are called "ikkodate" 一戸建て.

The old Japanese style hotels are called Ryokans.
But the modern western style hotels are called "hoteru" ホテル
