Best area to stay in Tokyo?

Question:

Help! I am trying to decide the best place to stay in Tokyo and have narrowed it down to Shinjuku or Roppongi. It will be my first time to Japan and my partner and I only have 4 days there. We are up for seeing a bit of the nightlife, but also want to see some touristy things during the day too. I like eating the local food when I am travelling so am not particularly looking for an area with Western food. Would love to hear your suggestions please! :)

Answer:

What is "best"??

For many best also is most expensive. You can stay almost anywhere in Tokyo and get around easily, and you can get a Tokyo subway day pass for about 1000 yen and go wherever you want.
For what to see, try looking at

For food, their is unlimited choice, but you might want to look at

But it might be better to just pick somewhere whenever you feel hungry and not waste time searching around for a particular place.
For hotels, you might want to look at:

If you have never stayed in one, then I recommend a Japanese inn (ryokan) for at least a night for the experience. You might want to look at:
