What is the difference between these two phrases?

Question:

What is the difference between these two phrases?

Watashi wa … to iimasu.

Watashi no namae wa ... desu.

And which one is more common to say in Japanese?

Answer:

direct translation is:
a. Watashi wa … to iimasu. --> I'm .....
b. Watashi no namae wa ... desu. --> My name is ....

a) is more common. But if it's for colloquial, you can leave "watashi" out, or "... desu" is enough between friends.
"watashi wa .... to moushimasu" is more formal.
b) rarely used in daily life. It sounds like the beginning of an autobiography to me.
