What is gay culture like in Japan?

Question:

みな、はじめまして。 For my final paper in my Japanese culture class I’ve decided to write about gay culture in contemporary Japan. I know nothing about the subject and any information regarding any resources such as books, websites, and the like would be greatly appreciated. I’m even hoping to interview a few people so any if I can get into contact with anyone who would be willing to be talk about the subject. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. ありがとうございます!

Answer:

Traditional concept of Japanese gay would be , younger gays are stanging at the corner of buildings or parks in Shinjuku 2 choume (a famous district of gays in Tokyo)in the evening , older gay visits there, find his partner, and the younger one earns USD100/night.
Some may run "gay bar" in old buildings. Ordinary people sometimes visit there just for curious fun.

But recently there are many surgically sex changed men (women) wearing magnificent dresses.
Some are famous TV personalities, such as "Haruna Ai""Mittsu Mangrobe""Matsuko Deluxe"
You can find Matsuko Deluxe(plump disguised man) in ad of Softbank (cell phone of Japan)

Disguised show theater "Lake of Black Swan" tokyo is somewhat famous.
