Yes, a lot of people are unfortunately dead or missing, but it's not even close to half the population.
People of the disaster area are doing better, but they are still suffering from crowded shelters, not enough medicine, and short food supply. Progress is being made, but they could still use everyone's contributions.
I am still donating money to the Japanese Red Cross and hoping for a speedy recovery. I suggest that you and anyone who cares even a bit donate to the Japanese Red Cross as well. But be careful not to donate to any other Red Cross, because by the time that money goes to Japan, only about half of what you donated will get sent.
