Do people wish on coins in Japan?

Question:

You know how you toss a penny into a fountain and make a wish? I'm just wondering if that's exclusive to Americanized culture or something, or if people do it in Asian countries, like Japan? I know they use yen in Japan, but do they do the same thing? Random I know, but I'm curious!

Answer:

Yes, they do. Mainly at shrines. The people get a little wish, and the shrine gets a little money...Just think, 100 100 yen coins a day is almost $100 !
