Japanese harvest festival food?

Question:

I have an exchange student from Japan for Thanksgiving. While I know Thanksgiving is a holiday in the states I know many cultures have similar holidays - usually a harvest festival of some sort. I believe in Japan there's one called Kinrou kansha no hi - Labor Thanksgiving Day. Is there a delicacy normally associated with the holiday? I'd like to make it for our guest. If not, is there a dish that made during a Japanese holiday that would suit the Thanksgiving season? Please tell me. Thank you!

Answer:

I can't recall off the top of my head any dishes related to this festival other than the obvious grains.

You could cook Kabocha squash, and one recipe is here: http://www.grouprecipes.com/1630/kabocha…

Sweet potato desert:

Chicken Udon is fairly simple to make:
