Will I (a white guy) be accepted in Japan?

Question:

I can't stand countries where women have more rights than men. Japan is the only remaining country in the developed world where men and women are equal. Even though I am Caucasian, if I work really hard and earn lots of many and learn all about Japan, the Japanese language and culture, could I move to Japan and be accepted there? Also, will I be able to find a nice Japanese wife that will act in a traditional manner? Women in business is like the French in war. They always screw-up LOL

Answer:

Men and women are not equal in Japan, really... They are a little less equal than in America or Britain, there are still many gender-specific stereotypes.

That's a big if, it will take many, many years to become a master of all of those things. However, yes many Japanese women marry westerners and are attracted to them.

You will never be accepted as Japanese by strangers. Once you are fluent in Japanese language and culture, your friends will accept you as much as Japanese as they are, but as I said, that will take many many years.

That's not to say however, that because you won't be accepted, that you'll be rejected. Japanese are not a different species, they each have their own standards as do we, but in general a Japanese person will be flattered that you have taken the time to learn about their way of life and will accept you as a person. To be accepted as a Japanese, however, is probably asking too much, because you will never be Japanese.
