Can i wear a yukata to a lilac festival?

Question:

i know this is Early but there is a lilac festival in may and i was thinking to wear the yukata there is this ok to do ?

Answer:

Technically you aren't supposed to. Yukata are summer garments (and within summer are pretty much confined to the hottest months, July and August) and aren't appropriate for any other time of the year. But if you aren't in Japan you could probably get away with it and nobody would care, though people who know anything about kimono might wonder a little.
