I can read it but I don't 'understand' it...
I though カンペン → 筆箱 ？

カンペン is actually かんべん べ and ぺ are often mixed up.
勘弁しとくれ. = for give me
From the context, I suspect a dialogue like this:
A: I'm freezing, why is this room so cold?
B: Sorry, I'll crank up the heat, so forgive me.
So B is your answer just in case I was not clear on this.
