I'm planing a trip to Tokyo and will be staying in a gaijin house for 90 days. I will want to stay in contact with friends and family. I have a samsung moment from sprint i know i wont get service but will i be able to get on the web for email/facebook via wifi on my phone?

Yes wifi standards are international. Assuming you have a wifi network to connect to and the password if there is one (not a cellular data network) you can use your phone on it.
