I notice that in certain Japanes media, whenever the topic of someone's (adult) virginity comes up, it's used as a teasing remark or as an out-and-out insult. Is that the norm, or is it exaggerated? Just curious.

Lol, it's exaggerated. I mean, people won't normally ask you if you're still a virgin here, unless you are good friends with them!
It's not a negative thing to be a virgin, but it sure is becoming rare, even in Japan.
Some people think Japanese people are conservative, but truth is, they aren't really!
