Are Japanese & Filipinos Asians or Pacific Islanders?

Question:

I know some people say Indians aren't Asian since they don't look like Chinese or other East Asians, but India is in Asian and India does share borders with China. But Buddhism started in India and is popular in Japan, so Indians have a lot in common with other East Asians. I don't know where Middle Eastern came from because there is no such thing. I also hear Filipinos aren't Asian since Spain took over the country and that's why they have Spanish influences...

Okay, so my question is some people think Filipinos aren't Asian, they are Pacific Islanders because Philippines are on an islands. But then Philippines in located in Asia though, so if Filipinos are considered Pacific Islanders then wouldn't Japanese people be considered Pacific Islanders as well, since Japan is also on islands like the Philippines? I'm confused because i thought they both were considered Asians. And yes, I'm also mixed with Filipino & Japanese as well.

Answer:

I agree that Filipinos are part of Ethnic Malays.
Although many of them look different from typical Malays as a result of 400-year Spanish occupation, some Filipinos (who do not have Spanish blood) still look like Malays. Some people who are said to be indigenous to the island of Mindanao (the southern most island in the Philippines) look more like the Pacific Islanders. I guess there must have been extensive population movements among them in the ancient period, including many islanders of Indonesia today.

The Japanese are part of East Asians. But interestingly enough, there are clear differences among the Han Chinese, Koreans and Japanese. It is obvious that these three races did not have blood mixture even in the prehistorical times. My personal observation is that the Japanese look more like Mongolians. I believer major portion of our ancestors came from the area that we call Mongolia today. Our archaeological discoveries show that our ancestors were already here on this Japanese archipelago at least 20,000+ years ago.

Note:
Someone above said that the Ainu is an indigenous race in Japan. It is not true; they came from north eastern part of Russia; probably from the Sakhalin or the Kamchatka Peninsula through the Kuril Islands when the geographical features in that area were quite different from Today.
