Research topic on current situation? in Japan?

Question:

I have to write a research paper and it has to be arguable and I have to be able to provide parentheticals and proof. I want to do it over japan but not the radiation. I was wondering if something like Japan will get back on theyre feet and be back to normal in no time. I want to talk about what the people are going through at the moment like the water bottles selling out and how the nation is staying whole despite the pain.

Answer:

Well, if you want your research paper to be about people buying bottle water, you should mention the earthquake, tsunami and the nuclear disaster that might or might not happen. You might describe what are Japanese going through and compare it with the Kobe earthquake's damages done to that city in 1995. Kobe was rebuild in less than 10 years which was a great achievement. Now, you might raise a question how long will it take to rebuild those north eastern Japanese coastal cities and weather the infrastructure will be changed regarding the fact that the coastline has shortened 2.5 m plus these cities will be having higher tides and possible floods etc. I think it is necessary to mention the nuclear disaster as it had effected the economy and the food products that are being cultivated in those areas but you don't necessarily have to write a separate paper on radiation, I think.
