Swords and knives in japan?

Question:

I have been having a hard time finding information on importing and licensing european style swords into japan, all the material I have read is about japanese style sword made in japan or abroad, also what is the maximum length for a fixed blade knife in japan and please only those who know what they are talking about answer and no wikapedia.

Answer:

Everything you need to know is contained in the Ju-To-Ho (Firearms and Sword Law). In terms of regulation, the Ju-To-Ho only applies to blades larger than 5.9" (15cm).

If the European sword you are bringing into Japan is a practice sword (made of alloy, not sharpened), then it is not technically a "sword" and not governed by this law. However, if it is a "real" sword, then you will have to jump through some hoops.
