Do kids in Japan go to school during the summer?

Question:

I was just curious.

How long are they in school?
From when, till when?

thanks in advance!

Answer:

The Japanese school year runs from April-March. There is usually a break of 2-3 weeks between the end of one school year and the beginning of another. There is usually also a short break around the New Year's holiday, as well as about a month from late July-late August. National holidays will also be days off from school. These days students typically do NOT attend classes at their school on Saturdays or Sundays, though club activities might be held for at least part of the day on Saturday.
