Safest Cities in Japan?

Question:

I currently live in America (born & raised) and i am going to be moving to Japan after college and i was hoping to get a job teaching english. I still have a couple years to get everything in order but i don't want to waste any time after college. So, I wanted to know what the safest or most recommended places to live in Japan are. Also, if anyone has any bonus information about life in Japan or knows where I could read about it that would be helpful too! Thank you so much!

Answer:

Safety is the least of your concerns. I've lived in the two largest cities in Japan and walked around at all hours of the night and never had any problems. Yeah, bad things do happen here too, but nothing like in the U.S. Any city will do you just fine.

I'd focus on saving up enough money for plane fare over and living expenses until you get your first paycheck. How much you need will depend on whether you want to live in a gaijin house with a private room and a common living area or your own apartment. The apartment is much more expensive and you'll have to find some to guarantee you. Basically requires about 3 months rent to move in.

If you don't have a job before you come, it is possible to find a job while on a tourist visa and then get them to sponsor you. Down side is that if you don't find a job in 90 days, you're outta' here.
