Western Unions in Okinawa Japan?

Question:

Answer:

As other ppl pointed out, Western Union seems to have no service in Okinawa prefecture. Actually, WU does not have any branch office in Japan; their money transfer service is commissioned to Travelex, Daikokuya and Philippine National Bank in only 13 prefectures throughout Japan.

Unfortunately, WU may be the least popular financial institution in Japan despite the fact that their handling charge for international money transfer may be least expensive among all the banks in Japan. There are some reasons for their unpopularity among the Japanese (I do not discuss it here), but the fact is that they were so unpopular that they had to terminate their business in Japan a few years ago. Up until then, WU service had been commissioned to Shizuoka bank, a very small local financial institution with a very limited number of branch offices outside of their home prefecture of Shizuoka.

Now, they seem to be back in business again with their affiliation with the Travelex and Daikokuya (a foreign-exchange shop, not a bank). No wonder, their offices are still limited in only 13 prefectures (out of 47 prefectures in Japan). Obviously, Okinawa is outside their business network.
