How do the japanese people make their futons and do most japanese people still slep on them?

Question:

what i would like to know is if i bought a basic futon what else would i need to buy to go with it i think it is a mattress, pad if needed top sheet a comforter, if it could be provided in a list then that or if logical order from top to bottom then that would be great.

also if i bought one in japan how much would it weight roughly and how much would it cost

Answer:

Slept at the in-laws the other night b/c of Obon. Futon time. The futon has a thin cover held in place by straps at each corner, kinda' like a mattress pad on a regular bed. Because it was hot, the AC was on and the next layer varied. For me a sheet. Others used a lightweight quilt/blanket. In the winter thicker quilts/blankets are used. Hate those little pillows. Hard. Especially don't like the ones that fill like they have chopped up drinking straws as filler.

Since you're asking about weight, I'm guessing you had plans of maybe having one shipped to you. They're pretty heavy. I wouldn't want to pay international shipping on one. And by that I mean you are almost certainly not going to be having one shipped to you. And they would probably get charged as oversized baggage by the airlines.

EDIT: Forgot your header question. Generally pick up one end and tri-fold. There is usually a wooden pallet in the closet and the futon is placed on that. Dehumidifier thingys are often put in the closet with the futons during rainy season.
