How do you study grammar? (Japanese)?

Question:

I really hate studying grammar or rather, I have no idea how to study grammar. I used to study English grammar for 10 years in school in my country but when I finally reached England, I couldn't understand anything (because I never listened to it).
So now I am trying to study Japanese on my own but I skip the grammar. I concentrate on word lists and listening and kanji but I think the grammar "will come". I do have a grammar book and sometimes look up or refer to it. However if I were to speak in Japanese it would be terrible as no one would understand it.
SO, I think maybe I should start studying the grammar. How do you study Japanese grammar?
