Will there still be radiation in tokyo Japan in september 2011?

Question:

Planning to visit Tokyo, Osaka , Hiroshima, Takayama, Kanazawa, Kurashiki, Kyoto in September this year. People have asked us to cancel this tour as it will be stillunsafe due to the radiation. What do you think?

Answer:

The radiation levels in Tokyo are normal. The everyday background radiation found all over the world. Fukushima's radiation is mostly out of the air now so it's fine for us here in Tokyo, for people closer to the plant not so much. Something kind of interesting is that the average radiation exposure from background radiation, military operations, cell phone use etc in the U.S. is 3000 microsieverts per year. If Tokyo stayed at it's current level the annual radiation exposure would only be 1753 microsieverts per year, nearly half of what you are exposed to in the U.S. So technically it's safer here...technically.
