Japanese grammar desu help.?

Question:


What is the purpuse of desu in this sentence?
watashi ha furui kuruma ga suki desu.
According to a translator its ''I like old cars''
desu as I understand is declaring something being or is. Is it there to imply the car ''is'' old?

Answer:


Desu is used to make the sentence more polite. There is no meaning. You can say that sentence without "desu" watashi ha furui kuruma ga suki
