Japan : What kind of people that rides motorcycle ?

Question:

How old are the average motorcyclists there approximately ? What are their jobs ? Are they students or workers ?

Answer:

Not many young people ride motor cycle these days.

One of the biggest market is small sized motor cycle( 50cc. bikes including scooters) for people's everyday shopping, commuting etc... People can ride this small motor cycle if they have a driver license for car. The tax and insurances are extremely cheap for these motor cycles. Many household wives ride these 50cc scooters.

Next major user group of motor cycle is middle aged man (let's say 30 to 50) and they love rather big and high-end motorcycles, BMW, H/D, Docati, or over 1000 cc Japanese bikes.. Motorcycle craze in Japan was about 1970-1990, roughly speaking. Those people who were young during that time still love motorcycles. Those people have got older and got more money now, and riding high-end motor cycles.

Edit: another very major category of motorcycle is very unique in Japan, that is big size scooters.
250cc to 650cc scooters are also common, and these are mostly owned by also middle aged men.
