Why so many Japanese tourists go to Greece every year?

Question:

The Japanese tourist with the came around his neck in the downtown of Athens and especially in Acropolis area is like a sightseeing itself in Greece for the last 30-40 years. Is it love for Greece or what? Almost 2 million Japanese tourists visit Greece every year, that's a fact.

Answer:

That's only like 1.5% of the Japanese population visiting Greece each year, if your statistics are true.

Considering how famous Athens is around the world, that sounds reasonable to me.

What about stats for other visitors? Maybe the Japanese just stick out to you because there aren't many mongoloids in Greece usually.

Most people around the world study about Ancient Greece. It's impressive, like the Pyramids or the other wonders of the world.
