Is it true in Japan that most apartment complexes don't have the numbers 4 and 9?

Question:

I'm learning Japanese and there are numbers that have two different words for them and in some information it said that most apartment complexes in Japan miss out the numbers 4 and 9 because they are thought to bring suffering and death. Is it true or is the information that I saw is false?

Answer:

It used to be so.
4 is called shi, 9 is called ku in Japanese.
They are the same sounds of lshi = 死 death and Ku 苦 suffering.
So owners of apartment, hotels and hospitals avoided such number.

But now, that is really rare.
Although an apartment close to my house doesn't have 104 and 204.
At that apartment, room 103 is the next of room 105.
