Japanese words that are misused in America?

Question:

Is it just me or is there a lot of Japanese words that are misused in America?

Some examples are the words anime and geisha.

A lot of people in America only use the word "anime" to describe animation that comes from Japan, and some Americans even only use it to describe the style of animation in which big eyes and stuff are used from Japanese animation,
but in Japan the word "anime" can be used to describe all types of animation from all over the world, is that correct? Anime is just a shorthand way of saying Animation in Japan, right?
So is it technically not correct to only use it to describe specific Japanese animation? Please enlighten me on how the word "anime" is used in Japan.

Also the word "geisha."
I always hear American people describing anybody who wears a kimono as a geisha, when that is not true at all. Just because someone wears a kimono doesn't make them a geisha.

I'm not saying all Americans make these mistakes, but it's just the ones I most commonly notice among the people who I associate with.

Are these words being misused?

Yes, you are right.

Another example is "hentai". I think this is used for perverted manga in US. But in Japan, it's used for perverted people.
