I am in the active army and might be stationed about 45 minutes outside of Tokyo. What would life be like in Tokyo for an American Soldier? Thanks.

. Things may change if you're in or out of uniform. Some Japanese have a problem with American military-men. It's due to them committing crimes & causing problems in bars / clubs.
It will be what you make it. If you show respect for the people you come into contact with, you shouldn't have any problems.
