Dual passports, Japan & US: What to do?

Question:

I am in a bit of a bind and need answers fast. My wife and I are currently living in Japan and I need to know how my wife can leave Japan and enter USA while having two passports and not be in trouble with Japanese immigrants.

I hold one citizenship; however, my wife has two. Legally she is not allowed dual after the age of 22. She originally is a Japanese national and have acquired usa citizenship through me by marriage. We planed on staying in the USA but have changed our minds ever since. Now we are living in Japan and she has two passports.

Things are getting crazy here and we are not sure what will happen. We plan to go back to usa for a while until things settle down. Can someone provide a solution on how she can leave Japan and not be ask questions by both countries if they find out of her status.

Here is an added bonus. She is 27 weeks pregnant. She can enter usa as a foreigner but they may question her pregnancy and ask who is the father,etc,etc....?

Answer:

Japan may not allow dual citizenship, but the uUS. does. she can use her American passport to enter the U.S. and thereby avoid needing a visa to stay more than 9o days. If the child is born in the U.S., he will be a u.s. citizen.. If the child is born in Japan, he will still be a U.S. citizen...but you need to register his birth at the nearest American embassy or consulate to establish the citizenship and get his passport. the U.S. is not going to question why she is here, or the pregnancy...as long as she is a U.S. citizen, she may come and go as she pleases. Now, according to site below, japan does not allow dual citizenship and the minute a person obtains a foreign citizenship, they lose their Japanese citizenship...so the Japanese govt would not consider her a Japanese citizen anymore...if they find out. The U.S. is not your problem, Japan is. Also, you say that she obtained U.s. citizenship through marriage to you...I am sure you are stating that because it is shorter than the real facts, but it really will confuse many people. It is not possible for a person to obtain citizenship by marriage. You had to sponsor her to become a permanent resident in the U.S., then, after 5 years as a green card holder, she had to apply for citizenship in the U.S.....Right? anyway...you may really come to the U.S. and live here, but Japan will have every right to prevent her from re-entering japan since she is really no longer a citizen...surely you guys knew this would happen when she became a U.S. citizen. If you return to the U.S., you will be doing so for keeps. If you need further clarification or confirmation, you could call the nearest immigration office and ask.
