What is Japan's role in it's region?

Question:

I'm writing a paper and I have to include what Japan's role in it's region is... I can't find much online, and we have to have a source, so anyone know any site that talks about it? Preferably something recent. I'd prefer not to use the nuclear/troubles that are going on right now. Would rather talk about something more pleasant lol. It's an easy paper anyway: Only one page! And no I'm not asking to cheat in any way, copy/paste it in my paper, or anything stupid like that! Just posting this while I look up some stuff (And actually doing two other people's work in the class...) so yea...
