Should I still travel to Japan on May 19 for two weeks?

Question:

I have booked to stay in Tokyo for two nights, Kyoto for four then back to Tokyo (Shinjuku) for eight nights. It will be difficult to postpone and I was very excited to go. What would your advice be - to travel or to cancel and reschedule?

We are planning almost the exact same trip. As of now we are not planning to cancel even though relatives in Japan suggested that we might want to. I think their main concern is that it will not be the "perfect" trip they want for us.
