Are the electrical outlets in Japan different than in North America?

Question:

I'm going to Japan soon and I know that European ones are different, so I was wondering if the ones in Japan were different too.

Answer:

The outlets themselves are not different from the US for the most part. I have brought over numerous US items and use them here. However, the power (volt) is different and thus, I get less power on my items (curling iron, blow dryer, even microwave.) It's highly recommended to purchase the items here with the correct voltage for the outlets.
