Which is better: Shanghai or Tokyo?

Question:

I'm trying to find out which is a better city to live in, but they both look really good!
1) Which city has a better transportation system? (Bus, subway/metro)
2)Which city is cleaner and has cleaner air?
3) Which city has better shopping malls? (I know Shanghai has some HUGE shopping malls like Super Brand Mall, but is really that nice?)
4) Which city is in a better country?
*By the way, PLEASE ignore the fact that an earthquake hit Japan. This means don't say Shanghai because earthquake in Japan. Thanks.

Answer:

Tokyo has the better transportation system, cleaner air, higher end shopping malls, and is in a better (safer, and more stable) country. The only drawback is the extremely high cost of living, but the environment is much better in Japan.

Shanghai (high income areas especially) is okay, but there are fewer human rights in China, and Shanghai can be a little dangerous if you don't know the area well/ know how to deal with problems encountered... (theft, getting ripped off, etc.)
